About DFM <3

Dreamhouse FM is a slow fashion brand focused on slow living and ethical fashion.

I started this brand because I have always loved fashion, and it broke my heart to see how hurtful the fashion industry is. I've always been so inspired by the early 2000s, folklore, and whimsy so I thought, why not blend all the things that I love into Dreamhouse FM?

I produce my pieces in small quantities and everything is made to order in order to minimize waste, designing each piece myself. Sometimes I'll even sew it myself! And other times, there's a local seamstress that sews the pieces I design for me.

Usually, I'm using either deadstock fabric, as well as vintage fabric. I hunt for the perfect pieces on Etsy a lot. If you'd like to inquire further, feel free to ask me where I sourced a fabric on a specific garment if you'd like :)

For all the girls who dream of a world full of whimsy, who are nostalgic for the early 2000s, even though that was a time that a lot of us, including myself, were barely even grown, and for the girls who, despite the world we currently live in being the way it is, will refuse to not see the magic in things all around us. For the girls who will always take their fates into their own hands and become the women they always aspired to “be.”

If you don't know me, hiii! I'm Zainab. I founded DFM because as I mentioned, I have always loved fashion more than I can explain and somehow, ended up in school for electrical engineering.

When it was time to apply to colleges, I saw everyone around me wanting to go into a STEM related field and I remember thinking, “bruh, what's wrong with me?” and so, with all my friends going into either engineering, compsci, biomedical, and other adjacent fields, I decided to do the same. Not that there's anything wrong with that, I think those fields are freaking spectacular but it was never for me. It took me reaching my junior year in university to finally accept that I'm not meant to be an engineer.

Growing up, I was always the super artsy kid. From my paintings to my outfits that I wore to school, no one thought this kid would grow up to be an engineer. And they were so right, because it was the arts and fashion that kept me going. There were so many times that my parents would look at me and go, “Are you sure you wanna be an engineer?” and I'd say yes every single time, thinking they were crazy for questioning it but when I finally accepted it, I couldn't be happier.

And so, naturally, one of the people that has been the biggest inspiration to me is Virgil Abloh. Dude was an engineer turned architect turned fashion designer and someone I've looked up to for so long now.

I have so many dreams for this brand that I hope to accomplish one day and I am so excited to be working towards those every single day. And I am so grateful that you're here.
